Installation

Site specific intervention on a cultural space called “The Hood” in Amadora, showcasing the “Vozes da Avó” project. The Installation stood 8 meters tall and was 8 meters wide created specifically for an already existing tetris like sculpture of 16 2x2meters cubes. Amadora, 2023.

This installation was a house of memories, celebrating the life stories of Portuguese grandmothers from Amadora. A sacred space that not only interpreted specific moments in the life of each one of them but it also made their stories coexist under one single roof.

We traveled around Portugal to get textile scraps donations. About 90% of the materials were donated from private entities and textile factories such as Dc Factory, i9Tex and Burel. The Grandmothers also donated personal objects, such as crochets, table towels, bed sheets, buttons and childhood boots to be part of the final work.

This House of memories was divided into 4 distinct areas: the top part of the house has the faces of the 8 celebrated grandmothers sewn into the exterior walls; the tunnel area you had our “hall of fame” with the photographs of every single muse. Right in the middle if you looked up you would see clothes “floating” in the air; finally two altar rooms - with interactive walls and two individual chandelier-like pieces.
